Print Facts & Expert Advice

Giclée Definition
pronounced (jee · clay or zhee - clay) derived from the French term meaning "spray of ink".  The Giclée process creates one of the finest digital prints that can be created from an original.

What is a Giclée Print?
A Giclée print is a reproduction of a work of fine art using archival media, archival inks and high-resolution inkjet printing techniques.

Our Giclée Prints
All prints are shipped unframed so that our customers can physically visualize the color and mood of their print before customizing the frame.
Prints include a two inch border that extends beyond the actual size of the specified print.

What is a Limited Edition?
A limited edition is a set number of prints that will ever be produced from one original.

Hahnemühle Fine German Etching Paper
Genuine Giclée prints are produced on archival grade paper and are printed with archival pigment based inks.  German etching paper is acid-free and age resistant.  Under proper care, this paper has been tested for longevity in excess of 150 years.

Somerset Velvet 100% Cotton Rag Paper
This fine art paper is acid-free with excellent archivability of over 150 years.  It is 100% cotton rag for long term durability.

Roland Hi Fi Jet  FJ500 Printer
Artists Danielle Jun, Will Stephen and Patricia Reeb
utilize this wide-format, top of the line printer technology to create museum quality giclée prints.  Roland leads the way to a new era of superb inkjet printing.  Award winning in print quality and speed.  Dual head, variable droplet technology delivers breathtaking fine art reproductions.  With an unprecedented range of color tones, the 8-color printing process reproduces a stunningly broad and realistic spectrum of color.  Crisp detail reproduces even the soft hairs on the human skin, creating astounding photo realistic images.  A milestone in high-resolution color printing, 1440 x 1440 dpi renders the subtlest details and textures with total realism and natural beauty.  Produces accurate, consistent and repeatable color matching.  Pigmented ink guarantees longevity.

Authenticity
Artists participate in every step of the creation of the prints and approve the proofs and techniques utilized in their production; each giclée is personally inspected and approved as an authentic and accurate reproduction of the original  (excluding Will Stephen - September 1936 - April 2001).  For the purposes of authenticity, prestige and value, each print is autographed and numbered in pencil by the artist.
Prints of Will Stephen's work will be signed posthumously - stamped with an signature stamp and numbered by the Executrix of his Estate.  Also each print is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity that acts as the official proof of the print release and all of it's aspects.

Giclée Print Care
Giclée prints should be treated with the same care as any piece of fine art.  The printed surface should not be touched, as dirt and oils may damage the image.  Prints should be framed under glass using acid-free mounting materials and kept out of direct sunlight for increased longevity.

Recommendations
Use gloves when handling the paper to avoid fingerprints and smudges on the printed surface.

Art as an Investment
Prints retain their value because the number of multiples is limited.  Scarcity increases value, so a limited edition will go up in price when the final piece is sold, and once an artist dies. Because of the laws of supply and demand, selling an entire edition drives the price up almost immediately after the edition sells out.  Art has intrinsic value, thereby one may enjoy a piece of art while it appreciates.
